Solar Plate Printmaking For Beginners with Carol Fitzsimonds
Solar Plate is a 21st Century print process using UV light (the sun) and ordinary tap water to create printable polymer surfaces. It is simpler, safer, and faster than traditional etching and relief printmaking. Together in this class we will experiment with creating solar plates using several methods and explore various methods to print these plates. We will use found objects; pencil and ink drawings on vellum, Mylar or plate glass; computer-generated films - even working directly on the plate itself. All these various techniques and more will be covered in this class.
"Printmaking is invention, innovation and endless possibility." Printmaking has a long, rich, and diverse history that has been shaped by masters from Rembrandt, Goya, to Warhol and Rauschenberg. The 21st Century has brought exciting changes to printmaking - an artist can move from using traditional stone, wood and copper to space age materials and computer technology. This is a very exciting time to be a printmaker! Carol will bring the solar plates and the tarlatan to class for a materials fee of $10.50 per student. This materials fee is payable to Carol at the first class. Please see below for an additional materials list that students will need for class.
