Beginning Oil Painting

Term:
Fall 2010
Enrollment Status:
Open

Learn to use oils to make paintings you will love. In this class, you will use five basic colors to make rich, evocative landscapes and still life paintings. You will learn how to look at a scene, decide what to paint and compose the painting. You’ll learn to see the lights and shadows, use the values of the scene, and manage the major shapes and details. This is not a step-by-step painting class; I will give a demonstration at the start of each class, but won’t instruct you stroke by stroke as someone like Bob Ross would. Even if you’ve never held a paintbrush before, you will make the decisions about the painting, and I will guide and critique you. You can expect to make a painting during each class session. Materials list available on SCAA website.

Carrie began painting at age 50 for a living. She has exhibited extensively in New England and New York and has been included in regional and national juried shows, and her landscapes and pet portraits hang in private collections across the country.
